100% was the number Dr. Hale reported in our most recent annual meeting. 100% of the students who applied for financial aid through the Academy received assistance. The dollar amount given ranged on need and merit, however, the smallest amount given was equal to approximately one-quarter of the cost of tuition. This is an amazing accomplishment for the Academy and each of us should be proud – truly a team effort.

Equally exciting was Dr. Hale’s report on the growing enrollment in both engineering as a whole and civil engineering reaching new heights. As enrollment in civil engineering grows, so does the need for financial aid. Therefore, we must stay vigilant and focused on the goal and objectives of our Academy, one of “Making a Difference One Civil Engineer at a Time.” As a father who had four children enrolled in various colleges at one time, I can honestly say, everything helps related to financial assistance. Thank you in advance for what we will carry out this year!

With enrollment on the rise and the recently opened Grady E. Harvell Civil Engineering Research and Education Center (CEREC) these are unprecedented times for the University. In our annual meeting Dean Needy reminded us of the great investment in engineering in Arkansas returning over 25% returns to our great State. Please be mindful of the College of Engineering Vision 2035 and make a personal commitment to promote and educate those in your sphere of influence about this endeavor.

Our time at the University and our education in Civil Engineering have positively affected all our lives. Regardless of how you define success, I believe we can all agree that civil engineering has provided a firm foundation for our life, our family, and our careers. We have much to be thankful for and much to give back. Be watching for more updates from the Academy for items needing your help as the year unfolds.

Be safe, verbally appreciate those who mean the most to you, and be grateful for all the blessings in your life.

I am honored to serve this great Academy.

Respectfully,

Kip Guthrie, PE
President
Arkansas Academy of Civil Engineers
